Fine Art BA (Hons) 1st Class from Duncan of Jordanstone
Lisa Scrimgeour’s work questions perceptions of the art world (including the art world’s perception of itself) as a world apart. Notions of a radical openness are chastened by our sudden understanding of a shameful conservatism and the rigour with which society conditions how, and even if, we see. Walking a dangerous line between documentary and high aestheticism, the works invite, or rather induce, visceral and instantaneous responses but are paradoxically far from realistic.
